n July 2020, the No.068 uniform visual design proposal by the team led by Xie Hong, Dean of School of Textile and Fashion, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, stood out from more than 600 sets of design schemes with 10,000 pieces in total after preliminary evaluation, re-evaluation and public evaluation, and became one of the 10 sets of shortlisted designs. With the full support of the university and the school, Prof. Xie Hong made overall arrangements, provided precise design guidance, and organized team members in a way that gave full play to each members' advantage. Team members-Li Yanmei, Zhou Zhipeng, Li Chunxiao, Hu Xiao, Zheng Tong, Hu Qiang, Wang Nan, Wang Xiaojuan, Sun Jing, and Yan Lanlan took their responsibilities and collaborated. At the same time, the design team took the advantage of industry-university-research cooperation resources and received free assistance from Zhejiang Giuseppe Co., Ltd, Zhejiang Lvyu Textile Technology Co., Ltd, Jiangsu Jinyou New Material Co., Ltd, Supield Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Red Dragonfly Footwear Co., Ltd, Shanghai Tahui Knitting Mill, and other enterprises.
In the optimization process of the design scheme, the Organizing Committee delegation led by Yan Cheng, head of the HR department, visited our school for guidance. The National Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games also appointed Prof. Wu Haiyan from China Academy of Art and Prof. Li Dangqi from Academy of Art and Design, Tsinghua University, as expert mentors for the design team. The mentors gave sound and professional advice and effectively optimized the design effect.
The visual appearance of the official uniforms for the Beijing 2022 Olympics and Paralympics represents the national image. Through the joint efforts of the expert team, design team, and the cooperative enterprises, the SUES design team spent four months, that is, over 100 days, completing three rounds of 40 outfits of sample-making and expert review.
Finally, the No. 068 design proposal “Splendid Light, Colourful World” by the SUES design team stood out and won the Silver Award and Organization Contribution Award. The uniforms will be collected by Beijing Olympic Museum. The design team of our school completed the task entrusted by the National Olympic Committee and made contributions to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
