The predecessor of the central laboratory of the college was the Textile and Clothing Laboratory of the East China Textile and Technology College Branch. After the establishment of Shanghai University of Engineering Science in 1978, a clothing experimental teaching center was vigorously constructed in response to departmental adjustments and the need to cultivate talents for the large clothing industry. In 2003, in the construction plan of the Songjiang campus, the school adopted a forward-looking perspective and overall planning layout, planning and constructing an art building of over 30000 square meters. The Textile and Clothing College is located in the art building. In 2004, the Shanghai Textile and Clothing Research Center was established, forming an experimental and practical training center for the entire textile and clothing industry chain, including textile and clothing fabrics, design, plate making, process development, sample clothing production, product display, and display marketing.
The main laboratory of the college center is located in the Art Building of Songjiang Campus, and some laboratories and high-level talent laboratories are distributed in the Training Building 3 and 5, as well as the original Halal Canteen. The Xianxia Road Campus is also distributed in the original laboratory of China Law School. The total usage area is about 4000 square meters, and the total number of rooms is about 62. There are a total of 32 professional classrooms or laboratories in the art building, with a usage area of approximately 2609.7 square meters (excluding the clothing performance hall, physical training room, and the first floor exhibition hall of 1068.82 square meters); 4 rooms in Building 3 of the training building, with a usage area of 235.83 square meters; The functional textile technology laboratory covers an area of 318.3 square meters (in the original halal cafeteria), the Shanghai Textile Chemistry Clean Production Engineering Technology Research Center covers an area of 700 square meters (in Building 5 of the training building), and the Fiber Materials Research Center covers an area of 300 square meters (in Building 5 of the training building), with a total usage area of approximately 3928 square meters.
